Deep Ellum has welcomed a new restaurant to its lineup this month, and it’s so gouda it’ll have you cheesing as soon as you take your first bite. Amor Y Queso (which means Love and Cheese in Spanish) sells charcuterie boards of all sizes and varieties that guests can easily carry home and enjoy.
I’ve become a charcuterie board nut over the past year, so when I heard the news about a storefront for this popular Dallas small business I could hardly contain my excitement! I tried Amor Y Queso on their opening day, and I’ve got all the details you need to know before you go.
Building a Business
The creator of Amor Y Queso, Sarah, has been serving up snacks in the Dallas area at local pop ups like The Boho Market for over a year. Her beautiful boards garnered a massive instagram following for their bright colors and creative ingredients. After receiving a small business grant from Seeds of Beauty, Amor Y Queso announced a physical location was coming to Deep Ellum this year.
On Friday, December 4, 2020, Amor Y Queso opened its doors to visitors for the first time.
Amor Y Queso Opening Day
When I visited, Amor Y Queso had only been officially open for business for a few hours. But despite it’s novelty, the team had no problem providing us with fast and friendly service. There were a variety of beautiful charcuterie boards ready and waiting for us to bring them home and snack with a smile. To kick off opening weekend, Amor Y Queso offered their mini, personal-sized boards for just $10. The owner Sarah made sure Austin and I each had a different variety of cheeses on our two boards so that we could mix and match and sample more things. I thought that was so thoughtful!
Sarah’s enthusiasm about her new brick and mortar location was so contagious. She had a guest book where customers could leave her a message on her first day in business, and she took a photo with each person who came through the door. The Boho Market team put together a beautiful mural of fresh flower stems so visitors could take plenty of pictures of and with their food. As someone who frequently photographs everything on my plate, I was overjoyed!
Amor Y Queso Review
While the boards are obviously a treat to look at, you’re probably curious if they live up to the hype when you actually eat them. CAN CONFIRM: They are amazing!!!
The flavors of each element on my board complimented each other so beautifully. I DM’ed Sarah on instagram after we ate them to tell her that she is a flavor queen!
The boards each included two types of cheese, one meat, four types of fresh fruit, crackers, nuts, olives, dried mushrooms, and a candied orange. So although they came in a small, “personal-sized” container, they made for a very filling lunch! Austin and I were totally impressed and agreed we would love to come back and order a larger board for a party sometime.
