We fell down the rabbit hole and wound up in Wonderland last weekend at the Mad Hatter Gin & Tea Party in Dallas, TX! If you’ve seen the online ads for this cute and quirky event and wondered what it would be like to attend, here’s my guide to all of the fun festivities.

The Mad Hatter Gin & Tea Party Atmosphere

From the moment you arrive at the mad tea party, you get swept up into the magic. After stepping inside the venue guests can choose a funky hat from a large collection and then ascend the front entrance stairs to meet the March Hare.

We were running a little bit late for this very important date, but luckily we arrived just in time to enjoy the full performance by the Wonderland characters. First a talking mirror takes your photo, then you step through a secret passageway where the March Hare hands you a welcome cocktail in a miniature “drink me” style bottle.

Next we descended another flight of stairs through a flowery tunnel, and WALA! We had landed in Wonderland. The tea party room was surrounded by murals on each wall, the ceiling was covered in hundreds of hanging flowers, and a long wonky row of decadent tables ran the length of the room. The lighting oscillated between moody purples, blues, and reds, throughout the afternoon.

Β The Mad Hatter Gin & Tea Party Cocktails

We were served three cocktails once we were seated at the Mad Hatter Gin & Tea Party. Each one utilized Gunpowder Irish Gin and creative mixer ingredients. “The Pool of Tears” was infused with hibiscus tea, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat” included lime and pineapple juice, swirled with shimmery dust, and was topped with rose petals. “The Smoking Caterpillar” included cranberry juice and green tea and was topped with a rosemary infused smoke bubble! All of them were delicious and very strong.

There were a few tiny bites for food with each cocktail, but definitely not a full meal or a typical “tea service.” The focus of this event is definitely on the drinks, so make sure you eat some lunch beforehand.

The Mad Hatter, The March Hare, and The Dormouse Live Performance

While you sip each cooky concoction, you can enjoy a dinner-theatre style performance by three of the main characters in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland: The Mad Hatter, The March Hare, and The Dormouse.

Occasionally you’ll hear other characters like The Queen of Hearts or The Cheshire Cat address the room in voiceovers as well. The main trio performs soliloquies, songs, and interactive games with the audience as they introduce each cocktail and keep the ambiance of Wonderland alive.
