I’ve been a digital fan of Katie-Rose Watson and her blog The Rose Table for years. She plans elaborate dinner parties for her friends themed around her favorite movies, and her Disney Dinners series was the inspiration for my Alice in Wonderland UnBirthday Party and Harry Potter Halloween Party. This spring, Austin and I were absolutely delighted when Katie-Rose invited us to attend her Jurassic Park Dinner Party!

It was my first opportunity to meet this blogger friend and kindred spirit in person, and I can confirm that her dinner parties are actually even more magical IRL than they appear in her videos and pictures. Since Austin is a Jurassic Park superfan, he was on cloud nine for the whole evening. Here’s what it was like to dine among the dinosaurs at The Rose Table.

Khaki… But Make it Fashion

Nothing says Jurassic Park better than khaki, right?!

I knew I wanted to wear an outfit that would tie in nicely with the theme, so I found a cute khaki skirt with a paper bag waist on Amazon and paired it with a satin scarf and quirky dinosaur earrings. The knotted scarf was a subtle nod to Ellie’s knotted button down shirt. Austin wore a black shirt with a dinosaur print (also from Amazon!) and khaki pants.

Dining with Dinosaurs

From the moment we walked into the dining room for this Jurassic Park Dinner Party, my jaw dropped. Katie-Rose outdid herself with this one! The entire room was encircled with lush plants, giving it a jungle vibe perfect for Isla Nublar. The tablescape had vivid shades of green and was dotted with candy that looked like mosquitos trapped in amber. But the decor detail that really swept us away was the herd of friendly dinosaurs trotting around outside the dining room window!

Katie-Rose hooked up her projector outside on the back porch so that it would display a variety of dinosaurs roaming through the trees on the window panes. Every so often, a pack of raptors would hiss or a T-Rex would roar at us through the window! It really felt like we were sitting down for a nice dinner with John Hammond himself at Jurassic Park. She spared no expense to bring the magic to life! I think Universal Orlando should take a page out of her book and open a restaurant concept like this in the Jurassic World section of the park.

Jurassic Park Dinner Party Food

As per usual with The Rose Table, each course of our dinner fit the theme for the evening. We kicked things off with a Clever Girl Cocktail. Katie-Rose used flecks of green jello in the drinks as a nod to one of the most iconic scenes in the movies.

Our first course was the Herbivore Salad. A hard-boiled egg pan fried in various spices to look like a dino egg sat on top of a nest of baked cheese surrounded by fresh leafy greens. It was as delicious as it was adorable!

Our main course was Carnivore Food: rack of lamb with fingerling potatoes. Katie-Rose served it up with some of her homemade pesto on the side, which was so divine I used her recipe to make some at home the very next week! She chose lamb lollipops as our protein because their bones had such a perfectly carnivorous look.

Finally, our dessert course was Dino Dig Cups. She served “dirt pudding” (chocolate pudding with Oreo crumbs) topped with a sugar cookie stamped with a dinosaur track! she buried each fossil cookie in the dirt a little bit and gave each guest a small brush to use in their “excavation.” I was OBSESSED with this interactive element!
