I’m always excited about an opportunity to try a new craft, so when MNC Candle Co invited me a candle making class at Grady Ln Boutique in Downtown McKinney, my answer was an immediate yes!

Here’s what we learned and how our beautiful candles melted in vintage style glassware turned out.

About MNC Candle Co:

Robyn, founder of MNC Candle Co and instructor for our class, says that she founded her businesses on a passion to make beautifully scented, high-quality candles with ingredients that are safe for your home and family. All of her products are made with phthalate-free fragrance oils and all-natural soy wax.

Aboute Grady Ln Boutique:

Hallie, founder of Grady Ln Boutique opened her business in June 2020 as a newly single mom determined to become an entrepreneur. Her brick and mortar location opened in Downtown McKinney in June 2021. She focuses on being body positive, offering sizes XS – 3XL for the clothes in her shop.

Shopping at Grady Ln Boutique

While Robyn set up for our class, we all had a chance to do some shopping! Hallie let us know that everything in the store was 20% off for class participants. There were sooo many cute things for sale!

We were also treated to a beautiful charcuterie spread and some wine to sip while we worked on our projects. It was the perfect girls night out situation.

Candle Making with MNC Candle Co

Once our class was all set up, we got to choose containers for our candles from a beautiful selection of vintage style glassware in several colors. I chose this lovely teacup that reminded me of Depression-era pink glass. Could it be any cuter?

With our containers in hand, it was time to choose our scents. We had 3 options from the MNC Candle Co collection: Cactus Blossom, Lavender and Sage, or Sweet Cream. I loved the bright floral notes in Cactus Blossom, so it was an easy choice for me!

Next we chose embellishments to set on top of our candles. Robyn set up a wide assortment of different crystals and dried flowers at each table for us to choose from while she worked on heating the wax for our candles to its melting point.

Then Robyn poured the scented wax of our choice into each container so it could cool and harden. This process took about 30 minutes.

Once our wax had solidified, we could add our embellishments. The trick is to make sure the wax is hard enough that the crystals and flowers won’t sink down to the middle, but soft enough that they will stay in place. Every person’s candle turned out so beautiful and unique, just like their personality!

I had so much fun learning how Robyn develops and tests new scents for her business, designing my own soy candle, and chatting with new friends at my table. This definitely won’t be my last crafting class at Grady Ln!
