The Lunar New Year begins a new chapter in the Zodiac calendar with the Year of the Tiger on February 1, 2022. We are lucky to have a melting pot of so many different cultures enriching DFW, and as a result there are lots of opportunities to celebrate Lunar New Year 2022 in Dallas.

Here are some special events hosted by Asian artists, business owners, and organizations throughout the community where you can participate in traditions like cuisine, lion dances, lucky envelopes, and more!

15th Annual Lunar New Year at Asia Times Square

Cultural hub and restaurant venue Asia Times Square in Grand Prairie is one of the most well-known places in DFW to experience Lunar New Year traditions. Their two-weekend event kicked off this Friday with lion dances, K Pop performances, traditional Asian cuisine, and a market full of vendors. Admission is free!

The Wishing Tree from the Crow Museum of Asian Art

Did you know that Dallas, TX is home to an enormous collection of classic and modern Asian artwork? The Crow Museum in Downtown Dallas is free to visit and is open Tuesday- Sunday. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about Asian culture from artists throughout history.

To celebrate the Year of the Tiger in 2022 they’ve had an interactive exhibit called The Wishing Tree on display at UTD campus since November 2021. Visitors can write our hopes and dreams for the future on colorful strips of paper and add them to a beautiful collection of wishes hanging from a circular sculpture in the lobby of the ATEC building. The idea was created by UTD alumna Jin-Ya Huang, and it’s a poignant, contemplative way to reflect on the upcoming year. The Wishing Tree will be on display until the first week of February.
