A newcomer to Deep Ellum last year, Punch Bowl Social boasts online that they “take funning to a whole new level.” Do they live up to this promise? I say yes.

Here’s why you need to visit Punch Bowl Social for your next date night or girls night.

Rum Punch at Punch Bowl Social

1. The “Punch”

While you don’t necessarily need to drink at Punch Bowl Social to have a great time, it is technically a bar. Their signature rum punch cocktails are delicious, and they have a large wine and craft beer selection if punch isn’t your thing. They also have lots of tasty fruit sodas that can be paired with alcohol (think Jack and Coke, but its Black Cherry or Strawberry Rhubarb flavored).

For anyone who doesn’t drink, they have a huge selection of mocktails. Since several of my good friends and family members don’t drink alcohol at all, I appreciate the fact that anyone can be included in the fun at Punch Bowl Social.

2. The Bowling

The Deep Ellum Punch Bowl Social location has 10 bowling lanes spread across its renovated warehouse rooms. They all feature comfortable seating and easy access to the bar for refills and snacks. Instead of a dingy bowling alley with sticky floors, you’ll find large bright windows and fun kitchy wallpaper.

3. The Games

If you aren’t in the mood to bowl, there are a plethora of other ways to have fun. Belt out the lyrics to your favorite song in a private karaoke room, dust off your thesaurus for a game of giant scrabble, or stick to bar classics like darts, Pac Man, and giant jenga. The games are all in large open spaces so that friends have plenty of room to gather.

4. The Food

You won’t find boring bar food on Punch Bowl Social’s. They serve up fresh tacos, juicy burgers, and even chicken and waffles from an extensive menu. I confess the only food I’ve tried so far are the Rosemary Fries, but I can vouch that those are addictive and amazing.

5. The Atmosphere

Probably my favorite thing about hanging out at Punch Bowl Social is the overall vibe throughout the warehouse. It feels less like a bar and more like a Celebration Station for adults. Some of the games spread throughout are free, and the paid games are all affordable.

Most people hit the bowling alleys as a stop on their bar hopping adventures at night, but I like to swing by during the day when it’s more relaxed. It feels almost like a college town coffee shop: bustling with quiet activity and friendly people talking instead of loud music and folks staring into their drinks. I think that’s the real magic of Punch Bowl: it actually does encourage you to be social.
