It’s no surprise to anyone who has read this blog before that Austin and I love all things Harry Potter. There was a tiny golden snitch on our wedding cake, and we spent a weekend last summer dressed up in Hogwarts robes at LeakyCon (a convention for other Harry Potter nerds like us).
Our most recent adventure combined two of our all-time favorite things: Harry Potter, and delicious food. We scored two tickets to Harry Potter High Tea at a specialty cake shop called The London Baker.
Most people who visit The London Baker at their Lewisville location are there to grab a quick scone for breakfast or pick out an elaborate icing design for their wedding or party. But we were there as guests at a banquet that rivaled the Hogwarts feast.
Everything about our experience at Harry Potter High Tea was exquisite, from the first sip to the last crumb. Here is what to expect if you can snag a spot on the guest list.
Booking a Reservation
The London Baker shop is small, so seating is extremely limited. For our afternoon tea, there were about six booths and tables for small parties and one long “Great Hall” style table for a bigger party. Since there are only a handful of spots, they tend to fill up extremely quickly.
You can only reserve your seats over the phone, not online. The price to attend is $34 per person for adults and $26 per child under 12. You must put down half of the price of your total order as a deposit to reserve your seat.
Delightful Decorations
Part of what made the experience worth the price were the stunning decorations. The London Baker staff stayed up until 4 a.m. completely transforming the shop into a scene from inside Hogwarts. There were floating candles, potion bottles, house banners, a dementor, a fondant sorting hat, and even Moaning Myrtle peeking out of the bathroom mirror.
Edible Experience
Here is the full menu we enjoyed at the Harry Potter Tea:
Hagrid’s Honey Baked Hogsmeade and Cheese Sandwiches – Ham and Swiss Baked Poppy Seed Dressed Roll
Turkey Cranberry Slytherin Sliders – Turkey, Cheese, and Cranberry Sauce Sandwiches
The Sorcerer’s Scones – Cranberry and Orange Sweet Scones and Bacon, Cheddar, and Chives Savory Scones
Treacle Tart (Harry Potter’s Favorite) – Sweet Golden Syrup Tart with Lemon
Golden Snitch – Salted Caramel Macaroon
Chocolate Cauldron Cake – Chocolate Cake with Marshmallow Frosting
Liquid Luck Potion – A Molten Golden Sweet Drink
Butterbeer – Served in a Mini Cauldron
In addition to the exclusive menu, we were served complimentary tea and were each given a beautiful sugar cookie decorated with our house crest.
Everything was delicious, and we literally cleaned our plates. Although each element on the menu was small, they added up to create a filling meal. Our favorite treats were the savory scones, the treacle tarts, and the golden snitch macaroons.
Our afternoon at the Harry Potter High Tea was utterly magical.
As soon as we finished eating all of our baked goods, we started wondering how soon we could come back!
Elizabeth Rowe, owner of The London Baker told us she plans to host many more themed teas in 2019. There will be more Harry Potter magic, but also Game of Thrones Tea and Pride and Prejudice Tea with menu items straight out of the history books.
If you want to receive updates on the next upcoming high tea events, you can sign up for The London Baker’s VIP Club in-store. VIP membership is totally free, and you will receive notice about exclusive high tea events one day early so that you can reserve a seat before the shop fills up.
