The BooMont Hotel

Autumn at the Arboretum

One of the most iconic signs that fall has arrived in Dallas is the return of Autumn at the Arboretum.

This year’s theme, Harvest Hues, transforms the Dallas Arboretum into a colorful fall wonderland featuring more than 100,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash throughout the gardens.

The 2026 Pumpkin Village takes inspiration from modern and contemporary artists, with six pumpkin houses inspired by artists including Basquiat, Rothko, Bourgeois, Mondrian, M.C. Escher, and Pollock and Krasner.

There are also some wonderfully quirky competitions, including the Hofbräu Masskrugstemmen stein-holding competition, a Beard & Mustache Competition and the annual Weenie Dog Races.

More than 70 dachshunds and wannabes are expected to race for the title of top dog, which honestly sounds like an excellent reason to make the trip.

Pumpkins and Pacas

Harmony Ranch Alpacas is bringing back Pumpkins & Pacas for the fall, combining pumpkin season with adorable alpacas and a whole list of family-friendly activities.

Visitors can see the alpacas, shop for pumpkins, take photos, play games and enjoy hay rides. Snacks and pumpkins are available for purchase, and the farm store will also be open.

Opening weekend coincides with National Alpaca Farm Days, making late September an especially fun time to visit.

Museum Murder Mystery: An Artful Game of Clue

Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival is one of the most unique fall celebrations in North Texas.

The weekend includes live music, food, arts and crafts, folklórico performances, the famous Coffin Races, a costume contest, Cirque du Horror and a lantern-lit Twilight Costume Parade.

Saturday’s main festival runs from 11 a.m.–9 p.m., with the Coffin Races beginning at noon and the Twilight Lantern and Costume Parade at 7 p.m.

The event takes place from 4–7 p.m. on Halloween and is free to attend, although an RSVP is recommended. It’s a fun way to turn trick-or-treating into a little Downtown adventure while enjoying the Halloween atmosphere throughout the heart of Dallas.
