One of my favorite spots to eat and shop around the Dallas metroplex is downtown McKinney. With so many unique boutiques, quirky restaurants, and gorgeous historic buildings, it makes a great day trip to the outskirts of DFW.
McKinney is also home to one of the best coffee spots in the whole Dallas area, a small bakery and restaurant called Layered Café. Here are a few of the reasons why my fellow coffee lovers should add it to your “to-drink list.”
1. The Location
Layered is right off the main square of historic downtown McKinney, at 111 E Virginia St. It is bordered by dozens of charming shops, interesting bars, historic homes, museums, wine cellars, a farmers market, and more. McKinney has so much to offer, and grabbing coffee at Layered will give you the fuel you need to enjoy the day.
2. The Vibe
With stained glass windows, exposed brick walls, mis-matched chairs, and art-deco ceiling tiles, Layered’s interior is practically begging to be Instagrammed.
3. The Latte Art
When you order coffee from Layered, you will receive a work of art every time. Using a special machine that prints intricate designs into the bubbles of their lattes, they deliver a masterpiece straight to your table. You can even download an app that lets you take a selfie and a barista will print THAT in your coffee for you! It almost looks too pretty to drink, until you remember what awaits you underneath those bubbles. Which brings us to reason #4…
4. The Drink Menu
Layered roasts their beans in-house, so all of their coffee is bound to be high quality and delicious. There is a small menu of specialty lattes, including a delicious white mocha, and even a drink infused with Nutella! If you are a coffee connoisseur, these beans will not disappoint.
5. The Food Menu
Layered has four different menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. We have dined from the brunch food menu and the lunch food menu so far, and we enjoyed every bite! My husband Austin’s favorite: Corn Beef Hash. My favorites: Hummus Plate with Naan Bread, and Avocado Toast.
Visiting Downtown McKinney? Layered is a must.
