Shopping and strolling around charming Downtown McKinney is one of my favorite pastimes in DFW. There are dozens of unique local businesses to explore around the McKinney square, where I can always seem to find something delicious to snack on or something pretty that needs to come decorate my home!
One of my favorite local shops in the area is Fair & Square Imports, where can not only find a wide assortment of beautifully handcrafted global goodies, you can also feel good about where your money is going too. Here’s a few reasons why I love to shop Fair & Square.
Ethically Sourced Fair Trade Products
All of the products for sale at Fair & Square Imports uphold fair trade standards. Simply put, this means artisans around the world in vulnerable communities are paid a living wage for their hard work. The environments where they create their goods have safe working conditions, where children are never exploited and women are given equal opportunity. This artisan-first mentality prioritizes long-term investment in community relationships and sustainable, environmentally-friendly business practices.
Part of the mission at Fair & Square is to help eradicate global poverty by only stocking products from small-scale artisans, nonprofit organizations, and farmers from all over the world.
As Fair & Square Imports themselves put it: “It’s a win-win situation: you get a gift that was handcrafted with love, and artisans get to provide basic necessities to their families and hope for future generations.”
Unique Handcrafted Designs
In addition to the importance of the core mission at Fair & Square, it’s worth noting that the products they stock are genuinely beautiful too. It’s a great place to search for meaningful gifts for others, because all of their intricate pieces of jewelry, hand-painted Christmas ornaments, glass dishware, imaginative toys, and more are one of a kind pieces.
When you purchase someone a gift from this store, they won’t find anything like it at large chain stores or even neighboring boutiques. Here are a few of my own favorite products they’ve carried for the last several years.
Tree of Life Stone Necklace from Peru
Butterfly Wing Jewelry from Peru
Phoenician Glass Plates and Goblets from West Bank
Quilled Paper 3D Cards from Vietnam
Olive Wood Mini Spoons from Kenya
Leather Goods from India
Hand-Painted Wooden Dragon Toys from Columbia
Fluffy Llama Toys from Peru
Colorful Soapstone Word Hearts from Kenya
