Did you catch a whiff of pumpkin spice latte wafting through the air? Is pumpkin merchandise magically appearing at all of your favorite stores? Despite the 90-degree temps, fall in Dallas is here!

This time of the year is full of excitement with dozens of local events, festivals, and pumpkin patches to enjoy. Here are 15 fun things to do for fall in Dallas 2022!

My Favorite Dallas Pumpkin Patches

1. The Dallas Farmers Market Pumpkin Patch

September 16 – October 31

Pumpkin patches are easily everyone’s favorite source of fall fun. Each year, The Dallas Farmers Market transforms into a pumpkin extravaganza with gourds in every shape and color, fall-themed photo ops, and tasty treats. You can find the largest pumpkin selections in the outdoor pavilion “The Shed” and across the street from the market at Ruibal’s Plants. The pumpkin vendors arrive daily in late September and stick around through the end of October.

2. Blase Family Farm Pumpkin Patch

September 24 – October 30

Another noteworthy and unique Dallas-area pumpkin patch is Blase Family Farm in Rockwall. This is hands down my favorite pumpkin patch in the DFW area! The farm is set in a beautiful woodland area that makes for gorgeous pictures. You can feed cute farm animals, go for a hayride on a tractor, and indulge in homemade pumpkin fudge and pumpkin popsicles.

3. Hall’s Pumpkin Farm & Corn Maze

September 30 – October 31

Pick pumpkins, take hayrides, and meander through a corn maze at one of the most popular spots in DFW: Hall’s Pumpkin Farm! This place has all the classic fall fun and photo ops you’re looking for. Keep in mind that they are a cash only business, so check their website to ensure you bring enough with you for admission and activities.

4. James Episcopal Church Pumpkin Patch

October 1 – 31

While there are dozens of pumpkin patches in communities and churches all over the Dallas area, the St. James Episcopal Church Pumpkin Patch stands out to me because its beautiful steeple has the perfect spooky vibes for pictures! You can snap some amazing photos with the building in the background while you browse from the pumpkin selection.

Dallas Fall Festivals & Events

5. House of Spirits Haunted Cocktail Party

Select Dates Sept 16 – Oct 31

If you’re looking for something with spooky vibes but you’re too intimidated to go to a full-scale haunted house, this is the perfect event for you. Event planning company Fever is bringing a Haunted Cocktail Party back to historic Dallas property Ross Manor for the second year in a row. Guests are encouraged to dress in old fashioned clothes while they interact with spirits from a spooky storyline and enjoy four mini cocktails, exploring each room of the manor. We attended last year and thoroughly enjoyed it! The cocktails were delicious (and surprisingly strong), the manor was the perfect setting, and the actors portraying the spirits did an excellent job.

6. The Haunted Tavern Cocktail Experience

Oct 20 – 30

Fever is also transforming Sons of Herman Hall into a Haunted Tavern experience where guests can enjoy drinks and hours of spooky storytelling. The “descendants of Ichabod Crane” will take you through a 4-part interactive experience full of local Dallas ghost stories and delicious craft cocktails. The best part is, this venue is located only 7 minutes away from the House of Spirits manor. You could definitely book afternoon tickets for that event, and then make the Haunted Tavern your nightcap!

10. Plano Balloon Festival

11. Downtown McKinney Oktoberfest

Sept 23 – 25

Snack on German brats and beers while you watch weenie dogs race down the street at Downtown McKinney’s Oktoberfest! While Oktoberfest events have steadily gained popularity in the Dallas area, I have to say that this one is my favorite. You can don a pair of lederhosen and enjoy tons of beautiful photo ops, drink your way through tons of delicious beer samples, and most importantly, watch local wiener dogs zip down a makeshift racetrack with their little ears flopping along behind them.

12. The State Fair of Texas

Sept 29 – Oct 23

If you know me, you already know how much I adore the State Fair of Texas! I have attended with my dad pretty much every year since I was born, and our family loves the fair so much, we buy season passes every year and go multiple times (often taking our friends along with us and introducing them to the magic). The State Fair has so much more to offer than typical carnie rides and cotton candy. There are award-winning food vendors, fascinating free shows, sweeping views of the Dallas skyline, up-close interactions with cuddly animals, free live music from major bands, and so much more.

13. Museum Murder Mystery: An Artful Game of Clue

Oct 8

A mystery is afoot! The Dallas Museum of Art will transform into a live game of clue this October and welcome guests to solve a crime by interviewing “suspects” amongst the paintings and sculptures. We attended this event several years ago and loved absolutely every minute of it!

14. Denton Day of the Dead

Oct 28 – 29

Cheer on your favorite boys and ghouls in the coffin races at Denton Day of the Dead! Out of all the events happening on Halloween weekend in DFW, this one is the most unique. Contestants race pinewood derby cars decorated as bright and colorful coffins down the street in the Downtown Denton square while onlookers enjoy snacks from food vendors, snap picks in a pumpkin patch, compete in a costume contest, and more spooky activities.
